In the small village of Hinamizawa, Rika Furude and her friends live together in relative harmony. Beneath this mask of peace, however, lies a hidden darkness, one that Rika understands all too well. پس از نقل مکان به شهر آرام هيناميزاوا، مبارا کيچی روزهای شادی را در مدرسه و با دوستانش می‌گذراند. اما اين تنها ظاهر ماجراست. در يک روز سرنوشت‌ساز، خبر قتلي که در هيناميزاوا وقوع يافته، به گوش کيچی می‌رسد. از آن روز به بعد، وقايع ترسناکی برای او اتفاق افتاده و می‌فهمد حتی نزديک‌ترين دوستانش نيز شايد آن چيزی نباشند که ظاهرشان نشان می‌دهد.
